English version at the end of this post
Material:
- alte Bauklötze aus Holz
- Holzleim
- Lackspray in Weiß
- Schmirgelpapier
- Holzstab
- Japansäge
- Ziernägel
- Haken und Ösen
- Acrylfarben
- Pinsel
- Bohrmaschine
- Kerzen

[Advertisement – without assignment] So I thought of something again! Our little Madame had her first birthday this weekend and I thought, it’s not yet enough work for me to sew a little dress for her, to get the presents, to bake a cake – no, I also had to make a birthday train for her! Should I mention that the train was finished only hours before her birthday because I started making it too late 🙂 but from the beginning: I bought a whole box of wooden building blocks at a flea market, from very old to brand new. Soon I had the idea to make something out of them, because we really have a lot of wooden blocks. I really wanted to have a birthday train for her, I always thought they were kind of cute, so it was logical that I wanted to build the train from the blocks myself! So I picked the most worn and dented ones out of the bundle and put together a train. Unfortunately I started to build it only 2 days before her birthday, because, yes, because there are other things to do during the week 🙂 Don’t make the same mistake if you want to build one, start in time. It’s not difficult to make it, but the paint has to dry – best for 1 day 🙂 And that I just didn’t plan well.
Material:
- old wooden building blocks
- wood glue
- paint spray white
- sandpaper
- wooden stick
- japanese saw
- decorative nails
- hooks and eyes
- acrylic paints
- brush
- drilling machine
- candles
Instructions: sand the building
blocks, assemble the desired shapes with wood glue. Spray everything
with white paint, for mine I needed 2 coats to make the paint cover.
Make the wheels from a round wooden stick by sawing the stick into
5mm thick discs. Paint the wheels also in the desired color. Paint
the train with acrylic colors. Nail the wheels to the locomotive and
the trailers. Put hooks and eyelets between the trailers, pre-drill
holes. Drill a suitable hole for the candlesticks on the top of each
part. Done.
I painted the train as neutral as possible, who
knows for how many children we might need it 🙂 In total there are
now 6 trailers and 1 locomotive in our train, so the child can use
the train until the seventh birthday. Our train is only used for
decoration, if the child should play with the train you have to make
sure that you use saliva-proof colours suitable for children.
What an adorable project . Are you going to add a car to thetrain for next year?
Hello, all cars and trailers are made, the train always stands completely on the birthday table just the candles are added each year, so this year for my daughters first birthday just one candle was burning. Next year two candles:-)
